This silk damask haori has a powder-pink background and a design worked entirely in the 'shibori' technique, a method of tie-dye which the Japanese have elevated to a fine art. Each small motif of the design has been gathered and either tied or sewn together and then dyed with the gathered part forming a resist. It is very skilled work and this haori is a fine example of it. The haori is lined with a synthetic damask which has darkened somewhat in storage. Other than this, the haori is in excellent condition and comes complete with two 'himo' ties to close it. This is a fine piece of craftsmanship as well as a lovely thing to wear!
