This silk is a fine example of 'mokume' (wood-grain) shibori. Shibori is a method of tie-dye whereby the fabric is manipulated and tied or sewn into place before dyeing. This silk would have required hundreds of stitches to form the wood-grain-like pattern on the surface. The colours are indigo blue and yellow and there is a very slight textured surface to the silk as a result of the manipulations. For those of you who live in jeans and love a luxurious scarf as an accent (like me!), this is the silk for you. Although it is exceptionally fine silk, the indigo colour and variegated dye work gives it a more casual feel, perfect for a scarf that could be worn every day.
