Kimono fabrics

Kimono Fabrics

Kimono fabrics are woven specifically to make kimono and they are all roughly 38cm/15" wide. The kimono fabrics that I sell are bought at auction for me and I usually have only one complete haori or kimono bolt (9 or 11 metres respectively) . Because each bolt of fabric is produced for a single kimono and they don't do production runs of thousands of metres like we do in the West, there is a high level of hand-finishing, e.g., hand-painting, stencilling, ikat, tie-dye, etc. I cut various lengths for customers from each bolt as they are ordered, so please contact me if you have a large project in mind and I can let you know what my remaining stock of a particular fabric is.

To order fabrics, simply e-mail me with the reference number and the amount that you would like to order.

I made this wall hanging by simply hemming both ends and slipping a piece of dowel through the top. Lovely!

Araihari**

**Araihari are kimono that have been taken apart and cleaned. Often, araihari fabrics are older and more interesting than the newer fabrics off the bolt, however the fabric is already cut in lengths for a kimono and the maximum continuous length of any piece is about 1.5 metres. If you wish to order more than a metre or so, do please e-mail me and I'll let you know the longest continuous length I have of that fabric. If you would like a metre or less, please just e-mail me with the reference no. and amount as usual.

Please note: All prices given are for one metre of fabric (roughly 39") however I can cut 1/2 metres or if you wish. Note for patchworkers: I can cut 1/4 metres of most fabrics.
