I love this length of thick fabric, which was woven to be made into an 'obi', the wide sash worn around the kimono. I love it for the deep blue background, the woodblock-like look to the patterns, and the feel of it. I suspect the silk has been blended with hemp and even though it is tightly woven and thick, it's marvellously soft and pliable. It measures 29.5 cm (11.5 ins) wide and is approximately 4.79 metres (382 ins long. This is a Fukuro obi length and so the roundel pattern appears throughout about 60% of it's length. A lovely length of fabric for any number of uses, or to pair with your silk kimono!
