This is a silk Nagoya obi, which means that the obi is full width for approximately 1m (39.4 ins) of its roughly 3.25m (128 ins) length and half width for the rest. The wider part is what is used to form the bow. This one has a deep burgundy background with a striking woven design of flowers in shades of green, cream and burgundy. It has some basting stitches along each edge which are easily removed.
The narrow parts of Nagoya obi can be easily unpicked as the design runs the full width even though it is halved and handsewn. They can then be used as table runners, or wall displays.
