Obi are the decorative sashes worn around kimono. They are all roughly 12" wide and some of them, such as Nagoya obi, reduce to half that width for part of their length. Men's obi are made of smooth, heavy, soft silk and are approximately 24" wide. Obi are examples of the finest weaving skill and are designed for quiet (or not so quiet...) impact. They make very elegant evening wraps and beautiful table runners or wall displays. Some of my customers even make evening bags from them. And of course, you can always wear them with a kimono...!
