This is a 'kasuri' (ikat) silk. The design is produced by gathering warp threads in groups and tying them with thread so that when they are dipped, they will resist the dye. When the cloth is eventually woven, the resisted threads form a pattern. This deep plum silk has a lovely suede-like feel and strength to it.
This bag is silk, lined with cotton. There is an inside pocket.

The top of the handles are approximately 15" from the top of the bag, so plenty of room to hang the bag over your shoulder.
