This is a formal crepe silk kimono with a jet black background and a design of stylised flowers and water-eddies embellished with hand-embroidery in metallic gold threads. The kimono is lined with a white synthetic fabric in the upper body and black silk in the skirt. The design in a simpler form appears on the inside of the black silk as well as the exterior. There are five little white 'mon' (family crests): two across the front and three across the back. As is customary with formal kimono, an additional faux lining of white synthetic has been basted into the kimono. There are some faint marks here and there which effectively disappear into the pattern and one or two marks on the lining, but other than this, it is in very good condition. These formal kimono are ideal for a wall display or they can of course be worn traditionally with an obi (kimono sash).
