This is a formal crepe silk kimono with a jet black background and a beautiful design of stylised ocean waves around the hem, which is embellished with gilt paint and couched gold threads. The kimono is lined with a white synthetic fabric in the upper body and black silk in the skirt. The design in a simpler form appears on the inside of the black silk as well as the exterior. There are five little white 'mon' (family crests): two across the front and three across the back. Other than one mark on the lining very near the hem, this kimono is in near-perfect condition. These formal kimono are ideal for a wall display or they can of course be worn traditionally with an obi (kimono sash).
