This is a lovely vintage 'Meisen' silk haori. The design is achieved by painting the warp threads through a stencil before weaving, giving the motifs an ikat-like 'fuzzy' appearance. The haori is lined across the shoulders and sleeves with a pretty synthetic fabric with a print of chrysanthemum. It has a satisfying weight as the silk fabric is 'doubled' to form the lining as well as the outer silk. This haori has never been worn and is in excellent condition. It would team beautifully with black trousers or a pair of smart jeans.
