Genshodo fabrics

These yarn-dyed cotton fabrics are woven in Japan and then the Edo-period designs are screen-printed by hand in a small workshop in Kyoto. They  are a modern evolution of 'katazome' or stencil-printing which has been practiced in Japan since the 9th century.  Gensho Sasakura, the award-winning producer of these fabrics,  has devoted many years to reproducing the design and feel of  Edo-period indigo cotton fabrics ('aimomen'), and this collection is the result.

Genshodo fabrics are medium-weight cotton and are ideal for curtains, cushions, jackets, trousers, bags and anything else that inspires you.  Whatever you make from them, these are heirloom fabrics.

Washing instructions:  These fabrics have been repeatedly washed, however for the first one or two washes, please wash seperately.  The chances of the dye staining any other cloth is slight, but it's best to be on the safe side!
